Easter

Our family likes to get together on the main holidays–Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.  The latter is the only one with half-way decent weather, so I usually take advantage of it to get a group photo of the third generation of Petrushas.  Not all of them are always there, but we try.

There aren’t many photos of the adults.  Easter, in the Ukrainian Orthodox tradition, mandates attendance at a midnight Easter mass which ends with the blessing of the baskets sometime around 5 AM.  Afterwards, some of us gather to sample the now blessed (non-Lenten) fare.  Let’s just say the adults aren’t usually at their finest on Easter day.

You can read about Ukrainian Easter traditions here, and look at some photos on the old site, here.  I have some photos from Easter celebrations at our church here.
